Maria obtained a Master of Pharmacy from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a PhD in Life Sciences from Manchester Metropolitan University. During her research career, she specialised in the discovery of novel antithrombotic drugs using in vitro platelet, megakaryocyte, and endothelial function assays, developing strong expertise in assay design and optimisation. She has extensive knowledge of haematology and the mechanisms of thrombosis and haemostasis, with expertise in assessing drug effects on platelet function. Maria joined the Platelet Services Team in 2026 as a Research Scientist.
